Step-by-step Setup

Pick your device.

Detailed instructions for installing your eSIM. Pick the tab that matches your phone.

  1. Open the email: pick QR code or install link
Right after purchase, you'll get an email with two options: a QR code and a one-tap install link. Use whichever is easiest:
📲 Easiest: open the email on your iPhone and tap the install link, your iPhone will install the eSIM directly, no scanning needed.

📷 Or: open the email on a different device (laptop, another phone), then scan the QR code with your iPhone camera.
  2. If you're using the QR code: open Settings → Cellular
Open Settings, tap Cellular (or Mobile Data in some regions). Tap Add eSIM or Add Cellular Plan, then choose Use QR Code and scan from your other screen.
  3. Confirm the installation
Tap Continue on each screen. The eSIM will be added to your phone, this takes about 30 seconds.
  4. Label your eSIM (optional but smart)
Give it a name like "Travel" or "Japan trip" so you can spot it later. Tap Continue.
  5. Pick which line to use for what
iPhone will ask which line to use for calls/texts (keep your home SIM) and which for cellular data (pick the new TravelSimply eSIM). Tap Continue.
⚠️ Important: turn OFF data roaming on your home SIM. Otherwise your home plan might charge you while travelling.
  6. Toggle the eSIM on when you land
Until you're at your destination, you can leave the eSIM off. When you land, go to Settings → Cellular, tap your TravelSimply line, toggle it on, and enable Data Roaming (this allows it to use the local network. Not the same as roaming charges).
  1. Open the email with your QR code
After purchase, you'll receive an email with your eSIM QR code and a one-tap install link. Note for Android users: the install link works best on iPhone. For Android, you'll get the most reliable result by scanning the QR code. Open the email on a different screen (laptop, tablet, another phone) so you can scan with your Android.
  2. Open Settings → Network & Internet
On your Android, tap Settings, then Network & Internet (or just Connections on Samsung). Look for SIMs or Mobile network.
💡 The exact menu names vary by manufacturer. On Samsung you'll find it under Connections → SIM card manager. On Pixel, it's under Network & Internet → SIMs.
  3. Tap "Add SIM" or "Download a SIM instead"
Look for an option like Add eSIM, Download a SIM, or a "+" button. Tap it.
  4. Scan the QR code
Your Android will open the camera. Point it at the QR code on your other screen. The phone will detect and process the code automatically.
  5. Confirm and download
Tap Download or Activate. The eSIM will be added, usually under a minute.
  6. Configure dual-SIM (if you have a regular SIM too)
Set your home SIM as the default for calls and texts, and the new TravelSimply eSIM as the default for mobile data. Disable data on your home SIM so you don't get roaming charges.
  7. Activate when you land
When you arrive at your destination, toggle the TravelSimply eSIM ON and enable Data Roaming for that line. Your phone will connect to the local network and you're online.

Common issues, quick fixes

Most problems sort themselves out in under a minute. If yours doesn't, our support team is one tap away.

If you're on iPhone, the easiest fix is to tap the install link in the email instead. That bypasses scanning entirely. Otherwise, make sure you're scanning the QR from a different screen (you can't scan a QR from the same phone you're installing it on). Open the email on your laptop or another device. Also, make sure your phone has a Wi-Fi connection during installation.
Three things to check: (1) Is the eSIM line toggled ON? (2) Is Data Roaming enabled for that line? (Don't worry, this allows the eSIM to use the local network, not your home roaming.) (3) Are you at the destination already? eSIMs only activate when they connect to a supported network. Try toggling airplane mode on/off, or restart your phone.
Go to Settings → Cellular → [your eSIM line] → Network Selection. Turn Automatic OFF, wait for the list, then manually choose the partner network for your destination (it'll be listed in your purchase confirmation email). Switch back to Automatic after.
First, check your spam/junk folder, sometimes the email lands there. Still missing? Contact us with your order number and we'll resend it instantly.
Yes, and we recommend it! Install the eSIM before you leave, keep the line toggled OFF until you land. Your data plan only starts counting when the eSIM connects to a network at your destination, so you're not "wasting" any time.
Easy, head to our top-up page, enter your eSIM ID (the ICCID, found in your phone's eSIM settings), and pick how much data to add. Top-ups apply instantly to your existing eSIM, no new QR scan needed.
Yes. Go to Settings → Cellular → [your eSIM line] → Remove eSIM. Warning: deleting it permanently removes the QR code, if you have unused data left, you can't reinstall the same plan. Keep it on your phone if you're going back.
